Fried Green Tomato Burgers
Fried Green Tomato Burgers | A wonderful Southern burger with tangy fried green tomatoes, bacon and a drizzle of thousand island dressing.

  • For the Burgers:
  • 2 pounds ground chuck
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3½ teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 4 slices Monterey Jack cheese with peppers
  • 8 slices bacon, cooked
  • 4 Kaiser rolls, split and toasted
  • Thousand Island dressing
  • For the Fried Green Tomatoes:
  • ½ cup self-rising cornmeal mix (Jiffy)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large green tomato, cut into ½ inch thick slices
  • vegetable oil or bacon grease (leftover from frying the bacon) for frying
Instructions
  1. For the Burgers:
  2. In a medium bowl, combine ground chuck, Worcestershire sauce, and 1½ teaspoons seasoned salt, stirring well.
  3. Form mixture into 4 (4-inch) patties
  4. Grill until done to your guests preference.
  5. Place 1 cheese slice over each patty; cover until cheese is melted.
  6. Place patty on the bottom half of the bun, add bacon and fried green tomatoes.
  7. Drizzle Thousand Island dressing on top.
  8. Cover with bun top and serve immediately.
  9. For the Fried Green Tomatoes:
  10. Slice tomato into thing ¼-inch slices.
  11. In a small bowl, combine cornmeal mix, flour, and remaining 2 teaspoons seasoned salt.
  12. In a separate small bowl, lightly beat egg.
  13. Dip both sides of each tomato slice in beaten egg, and dredge in cornmeal mixture.
  14. In a medium nonstick skillet, pour oil to a depth of ¼ inch (I used the bacon grease from the fried bacon).
